Back on December 27-30, 2004, students from around the country attended the first ever Campus Bible Fellowship Student Leadership Seminar. Various students and CBF staff representing 11 campuses around the country met in the mountains of West Virginia at the Alpine Lodge (on the campus of Appalachian Bible College). Through 9 workshops (covering everything from CBF Distinctives to Evangelism, and Discipleship) and an evening focus on Principles of Biblical Leadership, each student learned ways to become more effective spiritual leaders on their respective campuses through CBF.

True leaders are hard to find today, much less leaders who are spiritual—leading in the right direction. Our campuses also cry out for godly student leadership, in an often permissive, yet over-sensitive, politically correct environment. This CBF Student Leadership Seminar gave those present the tools necessary to step up and lead on the various campuses. There was even an opportunity to practice humble, servant leadership through following the example of Jesus in washing the disciple’s feet. Dr. David Rockwell was the featured speaker, who challenged everyone to realize their biblical responsibility to not only lead, but lead in the proper way. The model taken was from King David, who is said to have shepherded with “integrity of heart” and “skillfulness of hands” (Psalm 78:72).

Seminar Discussion

The few days we were together, enabled everyone present to also get a glimpse of life on other campuses around the country. One student remarked, “I didn’t know CBF was on so many campuses, and even in other countries.” Through our time together in the various workshops, opportunities we had to play games, fellowship around the table, and just sharing stories about CBF on our particular campuses, we bonded through our common relationship in Jesus Christ and experiences with CBF. Each student present will not only be better prepared for student leadership, but will also remember the great times we all had together at this leadership seminar and look forward to the time we can meet again in similar fashion.
