C.B.F. in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio has been home for Campus Bible Fellowship for nearly 25 years! Carl and Wilma Abbott pioneered CBF ministries at Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University in 1977. A multitude of staff have also called Cleveland home throughout the years of ministry here: Kevin and Barb Gau, Joline Hall, Elizabeth (McDonald) Mayner, and currently Dave and Jeannie Ferguson, who joined the Cleveland station in 1988, and Mary Amesbury, who arrived in 2001. And home it is for students from around the city, the state, the country and the world.

The three mile stretch of road from CSU to CWRU includes the campus territory of more than 25,000 students. Along with commuter orientated public college CSU and dorm centered private college CWRU, CBF ministry reaches students from the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), and the Ohio School of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM). That’s a variety of students with a variety of interests from a variety of places and a variety of abilities and a variety of needs. Cleveland is a great place to minister to a world of students!

CBF meets every Friday evening on the CWRU campus for a time of singing, praise and prayer, Bible study and refreshments. A great night of fellowship and learning! Group Bible studies are held at CSU at noontime on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Additional ministries include one-on-one discipleship and evangelistic Bible studies, small group studies, retreats, teaching English as a second language (ESL), a free garage sale for international students, and International Christmas Dinner, and lots and lots and lots and lots of home cooked meals.

Over the years of CBF God has steadily blessed the CBF ministry in Cleveland’s commitment to minister to the real needs of people with service and the Word of God. American and international students alike have heard God’s plan of salvation and have trusted in Jesus Christ for personal forgiveness and salvation. Biblical discipleship ministries have produced mature, growing Christians. (Hey! Take a moment to read “The Anands” testimony and consider God’s power to reach those whose countries have closed their doors to missionaries!) Many students have been called into fulltime vocational ministry.

Well, another school year is underway. Please pray for the effective work of the Word of God in the lives of students in Cleveand, Ohio. Pray God would send more workers to the field of the secular university campus!
